The late spring day had dawned cloudy, but despite this, it was brighter, than a traveller who had just arrived in Bonardia, would have expected from the imperial capital. The beautiful buildings in the city centre seemed even more stylised in this light. The stonework that many of them displayed on their facades was even more visible due to the play of light and shadow that the dawn created and which was slowly disappearing as the three suns made their way through the morning clouds in the sky.

The streets were beginning to fill with people starting their day: shops were opening, shutters were being raised and noises were becoming annoying in some parts of the city. In some areas in particular, the children’s chatter while playing their favourite games grew louder as they walked or run towards the schools around the city. This coming and going of people included the officials of the Imperial Court who were hurrying to get to their offices. It was true that the atmosphere within the Imperial Capital had become tense lately but they had to continue doing their job as usual.
